- Broadway Across America tickets. These shows are a great way for people across the US to experience the thrill of a live Broadway performance without traveling to New York!
- Preserve a treasured recipe. Ask your loved one for a copy of one of their classic recipes – one that the whole family looks forward to them making. You can preserve that recipe on a towel, book, or serving plate for the whole family to save.
- Plant spring bulbs in their yard. Depending on your zone, spring bulbs might still be able to be planted around the holidays. This is a great way to brighten up their yard for spring without your loved one having to do the work.
- Movie tickets – movies are a great way to get out of the house. A simple gift card to a local theater won’t take up any room in someone’s house and provides a great night out!
- Fire Stick with a Subscription like Netflix. Fire Sticks takes up almost no space and opens up a whole new world of entertainment. Many people who are downsizing are used to watching cable TV and might like commercial free shows and movies on Netflix. My own grandfather was thrilled to discover how many movies from his generation were on Netflix!
- Gift of time – your loved one may simply want your time together at the holidays. Think about giving a gift certificate for a local restaurant, a mani/pedi, or maybe a local cooking class. Include a message in the card that the gift is for the two of you to do together.
- Museum Pass – research a local museum that your loved one may like to visit. Museums often have extra events and activities for museum pass holders like special tours and priority access to new exhibits.
- Do something nice for your loved one – for example I know my parents loved it when I typed their Christmas Card list into printable labels. This way they can just print the labels every year and don’t have to worry about hand writing 100 addresses.
- Lastly, your loved one might like a “coupon” book for chores around the house. I know my parents can always use a hand lifting something, moving boxes,or adjusting the furniture after the holiday decorations come down. Sometimes they may feel guilty for asking – but if they have a “coupon” for 4 free hours of help they know you are willing to help them out.
