Are your children home for the holidays? Are they maybe driving you a little nuts? No judgment here! Having everyone all together for several weeks without the familiar school routine can be a big change for a family. When you add in the cold weather, visitors from out of town, fancy outfits, constant “CHEESE” for the camera – it can be a lot for kids (and parents) to handle!
So we wanted to come up with a few ideas to keep kids busy while the parents are busy making Christmas happen. These activities will entertain the kids while also allowing them to create some of their own Christmas magic.

- This is a big hit at our house – a full size gingerbread house that the kids can decorate and play inside. My kids were so enamored with this that they also colored the inside. It’s a great activity they can come back to throughout the day.
- Giant Coloring Banner from Friends Art Lab. This is a 10 foot GIANT coloring page that the kids can decorate all day. Here is another banner option that is super affordable! Plus, when it is finished it can even double as a very festive table runner. For intense and vibrant colors, we suggest picking up some tempera paint sticks.
- Who can resist a new pair of pajamas for the kids at Christmas? And if you can find a pair that’s adorable, memorable, and an activity to create? That’s a win-win. Check out the Christmas Color Me Set from Caden Lane. These are soft, adorable, and will give your kids something to make of their own for the holidays.
- Similarly, have you seen The Christmas Countdown Coloring Cloth from The Modern Cloth Co? This is another super fun coloring activity that the whole family will enjoy.
- For bigger kids, check out this printable Christmas Escape Room from KidsEscapeRoom on Etsy. This is a super fun game for older kids who love to figure out clues and solve mysteries! All the fun of an escape room without leaving your home.
Don’t forget some of the classic things you can do as a family during the holiday season – have a holiday movie marathon, make your own wrapping paper, decorate cards for neighbors, make Christmas cookies, or even find a local place to volunteer or donate toys.
