I’m pregnant with my second child. Things are definitely harder this time around. I’m 5 years older and “advance maternal age,” my SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction) is worse and started earlier. I wanted to share 5 things that are helping me get through the aches and pains of pregnancy!
1.) Maternity pillow: this really is a game changer for sleep and they have improved so much since my first pregnancy. My new one is more of a “G” shape, think “U” with a tail at the bottom. It even has a cooling layer! My only regret is not buying one sooner.
2.) SI support belt: I didn’t have one my first pregnancy, and I am so glad to have one now! It really helps with the SI pain and feeling like I’m not falling apart in the pelvis area. I live in a house with stairs (and chasing after a toddler) so this has been key!
3.) Supportive sneakers: in addition to the belt, having quality sneakers with support will also help you to feel strong and not “weak” especially if you have hard floors and wear socks. I have “house sneakers” that haven’t been outside so I can wear them all around the house when I’m picking up and just being active with my daughter.
4.) Lotions: yes, as we all know stretch makes cannot be avoided and I got plenty with my first pregnancy. However, it is still worth getting a good body lotion to nourish your skin. Or anything, it feels great after a shower! Pamper yourself!
5.) Maternity leggings: probably a few pairs LOL! I found some great ones on Amazon I have been living in. I tried a few and had to return, but I finally found the perfect pair. Why fight maternity clothes when you get affordable ones and feel better!
BONUS! Work with a great physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor and women’s health. Most insurances will cover this! I started around week 16 and I feel so much better after each session.
What did you find was helpful in your second trimester?
